Gavar tapanakar 03
Description
- Front side. The scene presents the Scholar figure with writing implements, holding an inscribed plate and an inkwell with a pen. The deceased is shown wearing braids and is likely a clerical figure, as indicated by the cross he holds in his hand and the three-lily crown on his head, which also bears a cross. To the right of the deceased are images of a wine jar and a plate.
Back side. Under three ornamented arches are finely stylized cross motifs, with round, woven decorative elements forming near their lower projections. The columns and capitals are masterfully worked, and between the arches are additional delicate ornaments that enrich the composition. The entire surface is enclosed within a plaited-rope band.
Lateral sides. Only one side bears a woven cross.
Upper side. Without ornamentation, marked only with a line.
