Description

  • 18th century (1703) cradle-shaped tombstone, large and finely carved. Belongs to Mirza, grandson of Ghukas and son of Sargis (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 951 inscription).

Front side. The deceased horseman holds the reins of his horse with one hand and receives a loaf with the other. Below the horse is a jar with a spout, and beside it a table laden with food. Above the table is a figure extending a loaf toward the deceased in one hand while holding a jar in the other. Three similar jars further enrich the lavish table, and the scene concludes with a musician. The inscription frames the entire composition.

Back side. Under five arches are elongated cross motifs, flanked on both sides by simpler crosses, all enclosed within a double-braided border. The northern face carving closely resembles examples 04-2 and 04-3, suggesting either the same sculptural school or the same master’s hand.

    Lateral and upper sides. Empty.
