Description
- Late 17th century (1673) cradle-shaped tombstone with concave upper side, large in size. Belongs to Avan, son of Nerses (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 948 inscription).
Front side. The northern carved face presents an intertwined scene of hunting and the “eternal feast.” The deceased horseman, shown without weapons, attempts to hunt an ibex. Above a banquet table laden with food is the servant, holding a wine jar in one hand and a loaf in the other. The inscription frames the composition.
Back side. Under three arches are cross motifs, supplemented below with two smaller crosses. The composition is framed with a rope-plaited band.
Lateral and upper sides. Empty.
