Description

  • 17th century (1673) cradle-shaped tombstone. Belongs to a person named Harutyun (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 980 inscription).

Front side. The deceased horseman is shown with one hand raised upward, above which is carved an elongated mace-like object, and to the left of his head a rectangular board. The scene continues with a table laden with food, followed by a servant who, according to iconographic convention, extends a loaf marked with the symbol of eternity toward the deceased while holding a wine jar in his other hand. Next to the jar is a small bird, and on the opposite side, a deer. The inscription is placed in the upper band.

Back side. Cross motifs beneath four arches, largely obscured under soil. The composition is framed with a rope-plaited border.

Lateral sides. On one side, a cross carved within an arch; on the other, the date of the inscription.

Upper side. Without ornamentation, marked only with a straight line.
