Description

  • Cradle-shaped carved tombstone without inscription.

Front side. A musician is depicted with an interesting head adornment, followed by two round tables laden with food, two wine jars, goblets, and unusual comb-like motifs. These motifs are most often found on tombstones depicting carpet-weaving scenes, suggesting that in this case they may also indicate the profession of the deceased. Two smaller figures are carved below the banquet scene, both with arms crossed on the chest. The scene concludes with the figure of the deceased, also with arms crossed on the chest. The sculptor seems to have carefully calculated the carving surface and maintained balanced proportions in the composition.

Back side. Cross motifs within five arches, the arches themselves rendered rather faintly.

Lateral sides. On one side only, a cross carved beneath an arch.

    Upper side. Empty.
