Description

  • 18th century (1703) cradle-shaped tombstone, large in size. Belongs to Narin, son of Elchin (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 931 inscription).

Front side. The northern face of the tombstone depicts a hunting scene. The deceased horseman rests both hands on his waist. Above his head are placed a bow and arrow, while in front of him is the deer being hunted. A youth holds the bridle of the horse. Following the youth are musical instruments, a qanun and a kamancha, and the scene concludes with the figure of a musician. To the left of the musician appears what seems to be a book and an elongated rectangular object of unclear function. The inscription frames the carved composition.

Back side. Under four arches are similar cross motifs, decorated below with palm branches. From the center of each cross rise two additional shoots. The composition is enclosed within a fine ornamental band.

Lateral and upper sides. Empty, with the upper side slightly convex and pillow-like.
