Geghhovit tapanakar 16-2
Description
- 16th century (1558) cradle-shaped tombstone with concave upper side, small in size. Belongs to Gharaykhan, son of Palasan (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 921 inscription).
Front side. The carved surface depicts the deceased’s saddled horse, with two birds perched upon it, followed by an ibex, a finely adorned table with food, and a jar decorated with wine lines. The scene concludes with what appears to be the image of a woman, shown with a slight smile. Her hair falls to the right, her braids ending in small rounded forms. One hand rests on her waist while the other holds a small round object. The date is carved at the very bottom of the scene.
Back side. Cross motifs under a triple arch, part of which is now covered by soil. The composition is enclosed within a plaited-rope border.
Lateral sides. The western side bears the inscription.
Upper side. Empty.
