Geghhovit tapanakar 28-2
Description
- Cradle-shaped tombstone belonging to Simeon, who died young and left behind inconsolable mourning (Armenian Lapidary, Pr. 4, № 904 inscription).
Front side. The deceased is depicted seated cross-legged at the center of the composition. To the left is a jar decorated with an eight-petaled flower and a loaf marked with the symbol of eternity, while to the right are tools indicating his profession, a pair of shears and a hook. The eastern edge is broken, leaving the inscription incomplete. According to lapidary scholar S. Barkhudaryan, this tombstone is likely related to Stepanos’ family of the preceding 28-1 tombstone and is close to it in date.
Lateral sides. On one side only is a beautiful stylized cross, its central arms ending in pairs of trefoil lobes, and below supplemented with two small, finely carved crosses.
Back side and upper side. Empty.
